The MG image restorer can be used to backup and to restore the complete OS image of a Machina Gate, which runs on a NEXCOM NIFE103 device. It can also be used to fill up a bare NIFE103 device with the Machina Gate OS and software suite, ready to run.

Step-by-step guide

Backup

Retrieving the image from a running MG instance

  1. Attach the MG image restorer to your computer.
  2. Delete the folder 'img' from the root folder of the MG image restorer, if present.
  3. remove safely the MG image restorer from your computer.
  4. Turn off the Machina Gate device (If ssh is possible: sudo shutdown -h now ), finally unplug the power supply.
  5. Attach the MG image restorer to the Machina Gate device (NIFE103). If possible, use the left (black) USB socket.
  6. Power on the Machina Gate.

After these steps the Machina Gate is dumping its content to the MG image restorer. When it finished, the Machina Gate is powering off by itself.

  7. Remove the MG image restorer from the Machina Gate.
  8. The Machina Gate can be powered on now.

The MG image restorer should not be used to backup MG images as img file, as described in image backup. The reason is the 16GB size of the MG image restorer. It should be done with a 4 GB USB flash drive.

 Restore

All data and all configurations, which are present at the Machina Gate before the restoration, get lost.

It is assumed here, that the MG image restorer contains the image you want to restore (the folder 'img' is present in the root folder of the MG image restorer).

  1. Turn off the Machina Gate device (NIFE103) (If ssh is possible: sudo shutdown -h now ), finally unplug the power supply.
  2. Attach the MG image restorer to the Machina Gate device. If possible, use the left (black) USB socket.
  3. Power on the Machina Gate.

After these steps the Machina Gate is restoring itself from the MG image restorer. When it finished, the Machina Gate is powering off by itself

  4. Power on the Machine Gate (plug in the power supply).

The Machina Gate is ready to rumble (ready to get configured).
