Host Checks

To change default arguments for host checks which are used for host monitoring setup, proceed as follows:

  1. Open the Administration Web Interface > Configuration > Host Checks and select a command name for host checks (see picture below).
  2. Change, if necessary, the default settings, which are described in the table below and click on  to check the changes.

    Argument

    Description

    Packet loss thresholds

The percentage of ICMP echo reply packets which can be lost before the status will result into warning or critical state.

    RTA thresholds

Average round trip time in milliseconds the returning packets must have spent at least before check results into warning or critical state. A reasonable pair of values could be something around 200.0 for warning and 1000.0 for critical, depending on network speed.

    Packets to send

    Number of packets to send.

Under normal circumstances you should not enter a value larger than 5 here as this can result in timeout errors as the check takes too much time to complete. A workable value is something about 2 to 3 packets.

    Timeout

Number of seconds check will spent before it turns state into critical.

Please set all values as low as possible in order to guarantee reliable results as well as less latency penalties as possible in case of unreachable hosts.
